Prof. Sabine Fuchs studied Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Bielefeld, and received her diploma with Prof. A. Müller in Bioinorganic Chemistry in 1999. She continued her studies at the Free University of Berlin, receiving her Ph.D. in preparative Macromolecular Chemistry with Prof. A. D. Schlüter in 2004. From 2004 to 2005 she worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the group of Prof. J.‑P. Majoral at the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination, CNRS, in Toulouse, France, followed by a short stay at the GKSS Research Center, Department of Biomaterials Research, in Teltow-Seehof, Germany. In 2006 she joint Ciba Specialty Chemicals Inc. as head of a research laboratory working on polymer stabilization and additivation. After moving to BASF SE, Ludwigshafen in 2008, she continued her work on flame retardant polymer formulations as head of an R&D laboratory in the Department of Global Materials & Systems Research. In 2014, she accepted a call as professor for Chemistry & Material Sciences at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences. Since 2018, she has additionally been working as director of AdvanPAS, a Scientific Business Division of IIT – Institut für Innovationstransfer an der Universität Bielefeld GmbH, in Bielefeld, Germany.
